Abstract

1305809 Two part couplings INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 5 Oct 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 47262/70 Heading H2E A connector comprises two connector members 4 and 4a, each comprising a casing 5 or 5a containing a respective electrically insulating plug 7 or 7a in which is mounted an electrically conductive stud 11 or 11a, an annular groove 10 or 10a being provided between the casing and plug to allow flow of the plug material when the two connection members are abutted, under pressure. The groove may be in the plug material as shown or the inner face of the casing adjacent the stud mating end 13 or 13a may be recessed. The casings may be resiliently biased against each other by a spring (18, Fig. 7, not shown) placed between one casing base and the base of the cavity in which the casing sits or between both casing bases and their respective cavity bases. Alternatively, the casings 5 and 5a may be absent and the plugs mounted directly in cavities in respective blocks 1 and 3. One stud may be pointed and of a hard material (AG 5 aluminium alloy) relative to that of the other (lead) which is flat. The studs may be generally frusto-conically shaped with their narrow ends as the mating surfaces.
