Abstract

1289017 Two part couplings FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 25 June 1970 [9 July 1969] 30838/70 Heading H2E A waterproof electrical connector assembly enabling wires to be electrically connected through a panel comprises an insulating resilient housing 1 having a plurality of passages 5 therethrough and adapted to be received in an aperture of a panel and sealingly mounted therein by a peripheral groove 2 of the housing. Each passage has a respective rupturable membrane 6 and at each end of the passage a conical sealing surface 8 and an annular groove 9. Complementary connectors with respective wires 13, 14 are inserted into a passage as shown so rupturing the diaphragm 6 and engaging each other. The conical surfaces 17, 18 of the connectors sealingly engage the surfaces 8 and moulded insulating bodies 25, 26 of projections 19, 20 of the connectors engage their respective grooves 9 to retain the connectors in the housing. The diaphragms may each have a star-shaped weak portion to aid said rupturing.
