Abstract

1302476 Tankers N G R POLVIANDER 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 27296/71 Headings B7A and B7S A tanker has an intermediate bottom 4 in at least one of the compartments formed by longitudinal and transverse bulkheads 9, 6 and well below the water line 5 so that external water pressure is greater than internal oil pressure in the lower tanks 2 and oil leakage is prevented in the event of tanks 2 being holed. Lower tanks 2 are equipped with emptying and filling pipe 16, extending to the tank bottom, and a pipe 16 extending just below bottom 4 for emptying in the event of holing. Pipe 15 is for exhaust gas. Bottom 4 may be installed in a completed conventional tanker by cutting a thin rectangular panel from the tanker's side below the water line and sliding the prefabricated bottom into the hull on guiding angle girders located on transverse bulkheads 6.
