Abstract

1295569 Knitting machines SINGER CO 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 26085/71 Heading D1C In a cylinder and dial knitting machine some of the dial needles are replaced in the tricks by stitch helpers 24 having projections 26 which engage an annular slot 14 in the dial as they slide in the tricks and cause the stitch helpers to be raised from and lowered into fabric holding position as they are moved radially by the actuating means. The dial of a cylinder and dial knitting machine has series of offset radial ribs 11, 12 on its upper surface separated by an annular slot 14 and wall members 16 fitted between ribs 11 to defined tricks 20. Helpers 24 have butts 24A and needles 22 have butts 22A and either B or C. Needles with butts 22A, 22B are moved to welt position by cam 30 engaging butts 22A, to knit position by cam 32 acting on butts 22B and to cast-off position by cams 36, 37 acting on butts 22A. Needles with butts 22A, 22C are moved to welt position by cam 30 acting on butts 22A and then to cast-off position by cams 38, 37 acting on butts 22A. Needles may knit tuck or miss. Stitch helpers 24 are moved from a retracted position to a position holding the fabric against the edge of the dial being cammed down by projections 26 sliding into slot 14.
