Abstract

1294085 Fusible cut-outs BOWTHORPE LINE EQUIPMENT Ltd 3 Nov 1969 [5 Nov 1968] 52442/68 Heading H2G A fuse element is formed of one or more pieces of wire N (Fig. 8) connected in series with one or more strip portions M, M 1 the strip melting before the wire for currents above a critical value, the wire being so dimensioned that on rupture, the arc formed will, at the circuit voltage for which the fuse is designed, burn away the adjacent portion of the strip until final rupture of the circuit is effected. The wire portion N may be enclosed in a heat insulating jacket N 1 which may be formed of beads threaded on the wire. The or each strip portion may have local reductions of its crosssection. Several such elements L5 (Fig. 12) may be arranged in parallel in an insulating tube L and may be wound around a former L 4 of star cross-section. The wire strip may be of silver and a small amount of tin or low melting point tin alloy may be applied thereto.
