Abstract

1291206 Winding webs HERMANN BERSTORFF MASCHINENBAU GmbH 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 21401/71 Heading B8R Apparatus for winding foil 2 on to a core 6 to form a roll 16 comprises: a preliminary winding station A constituted by a driven contact roller 12 and a pressure roller 8; a final winding station B including the roller 12 and a second contact roller 13 which is displaceable relative to the roller 12; means 21, 22, 23 for transferring a partially wound core from station A to station B; a magazine 3 for empty cores 6; a foil-securing device 10; and a cutter 26. In operation, an empty core 6 is released from the magazine 3 to fall on to the foil 2 when a measuring device (not shown) signals that the roll 16 is almost complete, the core being located on the foil first by a roller 27 and then by the pressure roller 8 which is actuated to press the core on to the roller 12. When the roll 16 has been fully wound the drive to roller 12 is terminated, the device 10 is actuated to positively attach the foil to the core, and the cutter 26 is operated to sever the foil. The rollers 12, 13 are then rotated again to wind a length of wrapping paper 20 around the completed roll 16, and during this operation the foil 2 is also wound on to the new core 6. Meanwhile, roller 13 is moved away from roller 12 so that the completed roll 16 can be discharged downwardly under the action of gravity. The roller 13 is then returned to its original position and the partially wound core is transferred from station A to station B for another winding cycle. During this winding the roller 13 is moved gradually away from the roller 12, and the pressure applied by a pressure roller 17 acting on the roll 16 is reduced as the diameter of the latter increases, thereby ensuring constant winding pressure.
