1282387 Feeding webs ARTOS DR-ING MEIER-WINDHORST KG 11 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 28321/70 Heading B8R A web winding apparatus comprises winding rollers I, II, mounted on a plate 16 pivotable about an axis B; a magazine 18, 28 for empty spools; a device 20-23 for cutting the web and transferring the leading end of the newly cut web on to an empty spool; a third winding roller III; and pneumatically operated pivoted roll-carrying arms 14. In operation, the plate 16 is pivoted to the right (Fig. 1, not shown), so tnat the roll 15 is supported and wound by the rollers II and III, the latter being driven faster than the former to ensure a firm winding; when the roll 15 is of the required size the arms 14 are moved to the right so that the roll continues to be driven by the roller III (Fig. 2, not shown), the plate 16 is moved into the position shown in Fig. 9, an empty spool 17 is fed on to the web between rollers I and II, the web is severed by the cutter, a gas blast directs the newly cut leading end of the web 11 on to the new spool, and winding of a fresh roll 25 commences on the rollers I and II, (Figs. 3 to 6, not shown). The arms 14 then transfer the completed roll 15 to a removal device (Fig. 7, not shown) and return to pick up the fresh roll 25; then the plate 16 is pivoted so that the rollers I and III complete the winding of the roll 25, the winding cycle thus being repeated (Fig. 8, not shown). The cutter may be of the hot wire type, or may comprise rotating cutters mounted on a bar.
