Abstract

1290354 Hammer mills GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 15 Dec 1969 [3 Jan 1969] 61061/69 Heading B2A To prevent clogging and accumulations of wet materials a hammer mill comprises a housing having a feed opening 72, Fig. 2, and an opposite back wall 12, a rotor 76 having hammers 80, breaker bars 30.. 36 some at least of which are in front of the back wall and at least some of which viz 32 A..D are rotatable, means for rotating the bars, i.e. an arrangement of sprockets and chains driven by an electric motor 42 via torque limiters, e.g. clutches, and a vibrator arrangement 62 associated with the back wall. As described, a floating wall is spaced from and resiliently mounted to the back wall an the vibrator 62 is connected to the floating wall. The feed opening includes the usual chains 74. The vibrator may be electromagnetic, have variable frequency control and operate typically at 60 HZ, or may be mechanically or pneumatically activated. The bars are rotated at speeds between 10 and 50 rpm and adjacent bars may be rotated in opposite directions and at different speeds. In a further embodiment, triangular lobes, e.g. 135A, B Fig. 6, are welded or otherwise joined to the bars. Square or oval lobes can also be used. Alternatively, stationary knives 235, Fig. 7, can be used to scrape the bars.
