Abstract

1290307 Mixers; agitator mills W A BACHOFEN [trading as WILLY A BACHOFEN] 27 May 1971 [1 March 1971] 17553/71 Headings B1C and B2A A suspension is processed in a chamber by the mixing/grinding action of agitated, particulate dispersing aids/grinding elements into a finely divided suspension and the self-cleaning annular exit 11 from the chamber is defined by two relatively rotatable, opposed parts 19, 21. Such an exit eliminates possibility of contamination of the leaving suspension by ground down particles of any of the aids/elements should they become caught between the parts as relative rotation of the parts ceases on an aid/ element entering between the parts. This cessation of relative rotation of the parts is because rotation of a part is due to the influence of suspension passing over it or to a magnetic driving coupling with a rotary member in the chamber and this influence is not strong enough to overcome the jamming effect of an aid/element between the parts. Preferably the part 19 is a fixed ring and the part 21 comprises a circular or non-circular disc bearing wings 22a rotatable about an axis in alignment with the axis of rotation of an impeller 10 in the chamber.
