Abstract

1285796 Applying powder to paper webs BAT CIGARETTEN-FARIKEN GmbH 5 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 10720/70 Heading D1L [Also in Divisions F2 and B6] Bronze powder is applied to adhesive imprints on a moving paper strip, e.g. of cigarette paper, by a rotating applying roller surfaced with a macroscopically smooth plastics material cover. Preferably the applying roller has a cover of polyamide, and is rotated in such a direction that where it contacts the paper, strip its surface moves against the direction of movement of the paper strip. The bronze powder may be drawn from a reservoir through a variable aperture into a chamber where a transfer roller with a polyamide surface picks it up and transfers it to the applying roller. The paper strip with the bronze powder on it is passed over a metal roller with cup-shaped recesses in its surface to cause it to vibrate and rid itself of surplus bronze powder.
