Heading B2E. Multilayer coatings of polyetetrafluoroethylene are obtained on heat-resistant materials, such as glass cloth, wire gauze or metal foil, by depositing on the material layers of an aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene, in the presence of a surfactant, dryng and sintering each layer before the application of a further layer, and during and/or immediately prior to the application of the second and subsequent layers, rubbing the surface of the coated material to produce an electrostatic negative charge thereon. The coating may be applied by spraying or immersion and the rubbing may be effected by passing the coated material over cloth or felt covered rollers.
