Abstract
1280352 Winding webs JOHN GLADSTONE & CO (ENG) Ltd 21 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 25891/69 Heading B8R A textile web 12 is wound from a supply roll 1 on to a driven core 3 by way of a breast roller 13 which is urged against the wound roll 21 by means of a pneumatic actuator 20. A signal representative of the web tension, as detected by a sensor 22 associated with the roller 13 (Fig. 2, not shown), is applied to a control device 24 together with a signal which is dependent upon the diameter of the wound roll 21 and which is derived from a cam 17 also associated with the roller 13. Outputs from the device 24 are applied to the pneumatic actuator 20 and to the pneumatic actuator 9 of a brake 5 which acts on the core 2 of the supply roll 1. The arrangement is such that the web tension and the pressure exerted by the breast roller 13 upon the wound roll 21 are progressively varied in accordance with the diameter of the wound roll to produce a desired roll density. A suitable arrangement for the control device 24, including first and second proportional controllers of the pneumatic type for regulating the tension in the web and the pressure exerted by the roller 13, is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
