Abstract

1280242 Feeding sheets PITNEY-BOWES Inc 22 July 1970 [23 July 1969] 35541/70 Heading B8R A sheet separating and feeding apparatus, e.g. for feeding copy sheets to a corona discharge unit (86), Fig. 1 (not shown), and developer tank (92) in a copying machine, includes a pile tray 62 mounted on a support which allows the tray to tilt about an axis extending longitudinally of the sheet feed direction and about an axis transverse thereto, e.g. on a stationary fulcrum 66, means, e.g. an adjustable spring 70, being provided to tilt said tray about said transverse axis to an operative position in which the uppermost sheet of the pile engages feed roller means 76 mounted above the front portion of the tray for rotation about a fixed axis. Corner separator tabs 146 are pivoted at 144 to each side of the tray and engage and align the front of the stack, such that the topmost sheet, engaged for instance by a pair of separating rollers 76, is buckled against the tabs before flipping over and being fed between guides 80 (78) to feed rollers (82) (84). The fulcrum may be a frustospherical stud allowing the tray to pivot universally within the limitation imposed by slotted, tray side plates 128 which locate stationary studs (130), Fig. 3 (not shown), 134, the tray being laterally adjustable about these studs. The tray is covered by a lid 14 which, when opened for stack loading, frees a latch 152 which, when the tray is pivoted away from the separating rollers 76, retains it in this loading position, the corner separator tabs 146 being elevated with respect to the tray by engagement of member 148 with the guide 80 to facilitate stack loading.
