Abstract

1310532 Feeding webs EASTMAN KODAK CO 17 April 1970 [21 April 1969] 18508/70 Heading B8R Strip material 16, e.g. the copy paper for an electrophotographic device, is drawn from a supply roll 10 by co-operating rollers 24, 25 which feed the strip along a path defined by guide plates 28, 38 formed with respective slots 29, 39 through which the rollers 24, 25 extend to engage the strip. The guide plates 28, 38 are pivotally supported about pins 33, (32), Fig. 4 (not shown), and are operatively associated with a pivoted lift bar 17 formed with a pair of cam plates 54, 55. Thus, when the lift bar 17 is raised from a lower position, shown in Fig. 1, to an upper position (Fig. 3, not shown) the cam plates 54, 55 rotate in a clockwise direction thereby raising the shaft 27 of rollers 25 so that the rollers are withdrawn through the slots 29; as this movement continues, shaft 27 engages the upper end of its mounting, i.e. the slots 36 in guide plate 38, so that the guide plate 38 is pivoted about the pins 33, (32). As the bar 17 continues to be raised, tabs 57, (56) on the lower guide plate 28 are engaged by side walls of the guide plate 38 causing the plate 28 also to be pivoted about pins 33, (32) so that it is raised above the rollers 24. In the raised position, endless springs (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), which normally hold the rollers 24 and 25 together, exert a force which holds the shaft 27 in a detent 58 on the cam plate 55; thus the rollers 24, 25 are then spaced on opposite sides of the guide plates, providing a clear open path through which the end of the strip material may be initially positioned for the start of a new feeding operation when an exhausted supply roll is replaced by a full roll.
