Abstract

1279482 Making razor blades; working at specified temperatures UDDEHOLMS AB 2 June 1969 [31 May 1968] 27886/69 Headings B3A and B3V [Also in Division C7] A blank for razor blades or razor strip is formed of a steel containing in percentage by weight the composition being such that on cooling from the austenite region a structure containing at least 80% pearlite would be formed. The steel is characterized by an unannealed ferrite-carbide structure in which there are at least 40 carbide grams per 100 Ám.<SP>2</SP>, while the matrix is such as to remain ferritic at 600-790‹ C. The structure is obtained from material which is initially at least 80% pearlitic by working (e.g. rolling) at 600-790‹C. to produce a reduction in crosssection of at least 40%. Razor blades may then be produced by edge-sharpening followed by hardening.
