Abstract

1278557 Garden umbrellas J ASPLIN 7 June 1971 [3 Nov 1969] 19271/71 Heading A4P A stem section 1, suitable for use as a lower section of the stem of a garden umbrella, is at its lower end tapered and provided with an external screw-thread 16, and adjacent its upper end provided with handles 21, to facilitate turning thereof. The handles may be two opposed pieces of bent tube each attached to the stem at its two ends. The main part of the stem section 1 is tubular, and the lower end is formed as a plug 12 having a spigot (13) on its upper end which is held in the tubular member by a rivet 15. A shoulder 14 is formed between the spigot (13) and a cylindrical part which is tapered at its lower end, the screwthreading 16 extending over the cylindrical and tapered portions of the plug. The upper section of the stem is received telescopically and locked by a device 4.
