Abstract

1,274,322. Delivering sheets. SOUTHWORTH MACHINE CORP. 4 June, 1969 [28 Aug., 1968], No. 28333/69. Heading B8R. Sheets or piles of sheets 32 conveyed along a horizontal path 33 between co-operating endless belts 34, 56 may be diverted into an inclined sheet path 48, Fig. 5, by a device 30 comprising an upper pressure roller 66 which is pivotable about co-operating lower pressure roller 41 to move the belt nip 65 angularly about the axis of roller 41 causing the sheet to be diverted as aforesaid. An angled plate 102, 105 is pivotable with device 30 to provide either a bridging surface 102 to permit sheets or piles 32 to continue in their horizontal path across gap 45 to further conveyer belts 52, Fig. 4, or a guide surface 105 to assist diversion of sheets or piles into the said inclined path, Fig. 5. Surfaces 102 and 105 may be provided with air jets to assist in guiding the sheets or piles. The arrival of sheets or piles at device 30 may be detected by a photocell and the device used to divert faulty sheets or to direct predetermined numbers of sheets to alternative receivers (36, 83, Fig. 3, not shown).
