Abstract

1,273,100. Tables combined with chairs; detachable arm rests. COMPAGNIE DU RONEO. Sept.16, 1970 [Sept.23, 1969], No.44287/70. Headings A4H and A4J. A tablet or arm rest assembly 1 for mounting on a chair 2 comprises a frame including front and rear columns 13, 11 connected by a horizontal arm 12 and a tablet or arm rest 24, e.g. of metal, plastics or wood, moveably attached to the frame by a pivot collar 28 rotatably surrounding arm 12 and a slide 29 straddling arm 12 when the tablet 24 is in its horizontal in-use position as shown. The tablet 24 can be moved to a vertical non-use position externally of the chair Fig. 5 (not shown) by pivoting its inner edge upwardly through 90 degrees about the axis of collar 28 and then swivelling the tablet 24 downwardly about the collar 28. To allow for the latter movement collar 28 is fixed at 31 to a plate 32 pivotably mounted on tablet 24 (at 33) Fig. 4 (not shown). The latter movement is guided by the slide 29, one end 36 engaging the frame at 14 in the in-use position, and the other end 37 abutting the column 13 in the non-use position. The tablet 24 is mounted on the chair 2 by a U-shaped collar 15 connected to the lower part of column 13 that engages around the chair front leg 5 with a notch (17), Fig. 5 (not shown) thereof engaging a cross-bar 9; and a downwardly open slotted socket 18 and a downwardly open hook 21 connected to the upper and lower parts of column 11 and engaging respectively the top 8 of the chair rear upright 6 and the joint between the seat support 4 and rear leg 6. A brace 23 secured to column 13 and abutting the interior of front leg 5 increases stability. The tablet 24 is also supported in its in-use position by transverse and angled arms (25), 26 connected to arm 12. Arm 26 and a block 38 on arm 12 prevent forward and rearward sliding of collar 28.
