Abstract

1,272,309. V-bed knitting machines. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. 5 Nov., 1970 [10 Nov., 1969], No. 55008/69. Heading D1C. In a multi-head V-bed knitting machine a plurality of staggered yarn carriers for each division are reciprocated in unison with the cam boxes in each division by carrier control rods driven by an endless chain assembly, carrier bolt means selecting the required rod, and adjusting means are provided for adjusting the positions of the yarn carriers relative to the cams of the cam boxes. Each pair of co-operating needle beds N 1 , N 2 in each division has, associated with it, five yarn carriers 1 staggered lengthwise of the machine each attached to one of the carrier control rods 2a to 2e which extend into control division C. Each rod 2a to 2e carries a gate 3 coacting with a bolt 4 of a bolt housing 5, bolt 4 being angularly adjustable to select the yarn carrier. The yarn carriers are moved by chains 8, 9 carried on a series of sprockets including sprockets 14, 15 and a drive sprocket carried on adjuster unit 23, the drive being such as to reciprocate the yarn carriers over their divisions in time with their respective cam boxes CB. Pairs of sprockets 16, 17 and 18, 19 provide cranked portions in the chain runs and are carried on saddles 28 which are movable through brackets 29 by nut housings 30 carried on left hand and right hand fashioning screws 31 which control the knitting width and this controls the stroke of the yarn carrier 1. As yarn carriers 1 are staggered along the needle beds the initial position of each relative to cam boxes CB is different and therefore hydraulic adjusting mechanism is provided in which double acting ram 40 whose piston rod is attached to a toothed rack 41 cooperating with a toothed pinion 42 mounted on the piston rod 43 of double acting ram 44 which is connected to cam 45 with steps or dwells corresponding to the yarn carriers which moves bar 46 attached to adjuster unit 23. The steps or dwells on cam 45 coact with stops 45a, 45b on the end of bar 46. Stop levers 47 operated by solenoids 48 are pivoted into the path of a stop 49 fixed to rack 41 to position ram 40. Yarn carrier selection is controlled, eg. as disclosed in U.K. Specification 1,200,473.
