Abstract

1,271,679. Piezoelectric resonators. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 16 July, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 35820/69. Heading H1E. A quartz crystal resonator for the range 800 to 2200 KHz consists of a plate 10 having a (yzw) orientation of - 51 degrees/0 degrees/0 degrees (a DT cut) and a length to width ratio in the range 23 to 29, the plate being provided at both ends with similar, asymmetrical tapers of angle α = 1 to 5 degrees by cutting away a substantial portion of one edge. The taper enables the length of the plate to be reduced. The length l 1 is preferably 40 to 50% of the length l, and an appreciable portion of the length l 1 is covered by electrodes 11. The width w of the plate lies between 0À0825 and 0À030 inch. The thickness t is less than 0À030 inch. It is stated that suppression of unwanted resonances is obtained.
