Abstract

1,185,819. Piezo-electric resonators. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 11 March, 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 12710/69. Heading H1E. A method of mass-loading a crystal (e.g. quartz) resonator consists in anodizing the aluminium films which constitute the electrodes. The anodization may be carried out in a non- solvent electrolyte using voltages as high as 1000 V. The voltage determines the thickness of the oxide film and hence the extent of the mass-loading. Thus, the resonant frequency may be adjusted by applying a calculated voltage.
