A switchgear assembly comprises one or more fuses carried by a slidable fuse drawer, a vertically slidable panel providing access to a switch having a pivoted switch blade, the arrangement being such that the fuse drawer is unlocked when the switch is open and locked when the switch is closed, the panel being movable when the fuse drawer has been opened to a predetermined position. A metallic housing 10 mounted on a concrete pad has a slidable top panel 13, and a horizontally slidable fuse drawer 14 carrying fuses 17. These fuses have contact arms 24, 25 engaging in the closed drawer position, contact plates (26, 27) of loop feeder switches 28, 29, located on either side of the fuse drawer. Switch blades 30, (31) are pivoted through arc-chutes 32, 33 into engagement with stationary switch contacts 34, (35). A tool inserted on shafts 54, 55 causes snap-action operation of the respective switches via spring operators 52, 53 and operating arms (46, 47) also moving upper and lower latches 66, 67 and 88, 89, respectively, via rods 62, 63. Upper and lower, notched, latch plates 72, 73 and 74, 75 respectively extend rearwardly from opposite sides of the drawer and are engaged in the closedswitch position by the respective latches 66, 67 88 and 89 so as to prevent the removal of the drawer. Look pins 96, 97 engage the inturned flanges 94, 95 of panels 44, 45 when the drawer is in position, preventing the removal of the panels. The pins are connected to pivoted levers 104, 105 mounted on a shaft 106 which is rotated between two lock-pin operating positions by pins (111) and 112 respectively engaging a further lever 110, mounted on the shaft, as the drawer is either withdrawn or inserted. The lever 104, (105) is held in either of its positions by a spring, Fig. 6 (not shown), and has a projection 117, (116) which engages latch 89, (88) in the drawer-withdrawn position, to prevent its release and hence the closing of the switch.
