Abstract

1,269,043. Power plant. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 24 April, 1969 [10 April, 1968], No. 17223/68. Heading B7V. A power plant for an oil tanker comprises one or more slow speed diesel propulsion engines 10 connected to one or more propellers 24, and one or more medium speed diesel auxiliary engines 13 connectable to drive the propellers, (propeller 26, as shown) and auxiliary equipment, e.g. cargo pumps or electric generators, either simultaneously or alternatively, clutches 21, 22 and gear boxes 20 being provided. In Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the propulsion and auxiliary engines drive the same propeller. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the propulsion and auxiliary engines drive two propellers through shafts arranged on either side of the propulsion engine.
