Abstract
126,845. James, G. S. June 20, 1918. Angular bending; mandrels. - Apparatus for bending tubes, particularly handle-bars of cycles, comprises a mandrel with a shaped nose, and a block with heading and clamping faces, which is swung on a pivot to draw a part of the tube off the mandrel and bend it. The bending and clamping faces have curved grooves to enable successive operations to bend the tube in different planes. The tube c is passed over the mandrel a., which has a curved nose a<4>. The bending-block g has a bending-groove i<2> and continuations h<2>, Fig. 4. The clamping plate j<2> is detachable, plates having grooves corresponding to any one of the grooves h<2> being available. When a straight tube is used, it lies in the central groove h<2>, and after it has been clamped by the corresponding clamping-plate j<2>, the block g is swung on its pivot g<2> by means of a bar inserted in the hole o. The tube thus bent may be again bent by using one of the curved grooves h<2> and its corresponding clamping-plate j<2>, again swinging the block g. The block n carrying the pivot g<2> forms a support for the mandrel.
