Abstract

126,742. Harbottle, R., and Sivertson, S. Aug. 1, 1917 Materials, fibrous; pulp, preparation of.-The fibrous residue obtained from the extraction of dyes from the bark and roots of the South African trees Sclerocarya caffra, Rhus longifolia, Rhus laevigata, a third species of Rhus known by the native name Ndhlokotshana, Euclea lanceolata, Euclea natalensis, Eugenia cordata, Harpephyllum caffrum, and from the bulbs of two varieties of Elephantorhiza Burchellii, is suitable for use in the manufacture of paper. The process comprises boiling the materials in water or steeping in water and expressing the juice by passage through rollers.
