[Also in Division B3] Apparatus for extracting tubes or other hollow objects from their moulds comprises a plurality of jaws 8, Fig. 2, carried by a jaw carrier 4 rotatably mounted on a fixed support 1, and a device 13 for spreading the jaws apart in opposition to resiliently yieldable return means 9, the device 13 being radially expansible at least in the region of the point at which each jaw bears thereon, under the action of a compressed fluid. The device 13 may consist of a hollow elastic bulb having an inner wall 14 of rubber covered with layers 15 of heat insulating material e.g. mineral wool. In use, the extractor is introduced into a centrifugally cast pipe in a mould and compressed air supplied to the interior of the bulb 13 so that it expands and forces the jaws 8 against the inner surface of the rotating pipe. The extractor rotates about its fixed support 1 and is withdrawn from the mould bringing the cast pipe with it. In an embodiment, Fig. 5, the jaws 27 are forced outward by compressed fluid acting on pistons 25 sliding in bores 24. The hollow support 4a is rotatably mounted on a fixed support 1a. The apparatus is suitable for the extraction of pipes made of metal, plastics materials, concrete, asbestos-cement or other organic or mineral materials.
