Abstract

[Also in Division G1] In a permanent way measuring arrangement for determining a number of the characteristics of a railway track in which a vehicle 1 carrying recording and indicating apparatus is coupled to a pair of measuring trucks running respectively on axles A, B and C, D, at least one of the axles 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of the vehicle 1 is disposed between the axles of a measuring truck. The trucks are formed with resilient frames to allow all the truck wheels, which may be cylindrical flanged wheels, to engage the track and for some of the measurements the wheels may be loaded vertically or horizontally. The Specification describes arrangements for measuring track curvature, track level, track gauge, and track twist and arrangements for indicating the condition of the sleepers, rail fastenings and ballast.
