Abstract

1,266,432. Cultivators. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. 28 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 27091/69. Heading A1B. A cultivator comprises a plurality of tined soil working members 4, each being rotatable about vertical or substantially vertical axis 3 and having a rear soil engaging roller 15 extending substantially normal to the intended direction of travel A which roller extends across substantially the whole working width of the cultivator, the roller comprising a plurality of parallel bars. In an embodiment the soil working members 4 are located in a row beneath a hollow frame beam 2 which extends horizontally perpendicular to the direction of advance A, the uppermost end of each vertical shaft 3 being provided inside beam 2 with a spur-toothed pinion (6) Fig. 1 (not shown) which is in driven contact with its adjacent pinions to drive each member in the opposite direction to its neighbours. The shaft 3 of one soil working member is extended into a gearbox 10 which is in driven connection with the input shaft 12 via a gear 11 which gives four transmission ratios. Each member 4 includes two horizontal supports 7 which clamp the vertical shaft 3 to the ends of a pair of rigid tines 9 of square cross section. The cultivator is mounted on the three-point linkage of a tractor via a coupling member 27.
