[Also in Division B3] A tool for sealing containers 50 comprises pivotally mounted crimping fingers 7 for forming a container cover 52 on to the container 50, and a closure-applying attachment 30 for engaging closure assemblies 56, 58 about openings 55, 57 in the cover 52, simultaneously with the forming of the cover 52 on to the container 50. The cover 52 is placed on the container 50 with a downwardly facing channel 53 in engagement with a bead 51, and the closure assemblies 56, 58 are placed loosely over their respective openings 55, 57, and the sealing tool 1, fitted with the closure-applying attachment 30, is placed on top of the container 50, Fig. 3. Sealing action commences as the tool operator presses down a handle (19), Fig. 1 (not shown), causing the wall-engaging surfaces 9 to move radially inwardly due to pivotal action of the links 23, arms 10 and fingers 7, thus forming the lugs 54 in around the under-surface of the container bead 51. Simultaneously with this action, the under-surface of collar 13, which is moving downwardly along a shaft 15, strikes the rods 39 thus transmitting a force to plate 31 which in turn presses closure assemblies 56, 58 into their respective openings 55, 57. Closure assemblies of varying height may be catered for by using the vertical adjustability of the rods 39.
