Abstract
1,264,577. Accelerator for unpowered toy vehicles. MATTEL Inc. 24 April, 1970 [23 Jan., 1970], No. 19741/70. Heading A6S. An accelerator for unpowered toy vehicles comprises a housing 31 positioned over a roadway 17 having a pivot post 45 on which is pivoted a cocking arm 47, coupled to a latch assembly 71 by means of a coupling arm 73. A guide pin 75 on either side of the latch assembly rides in a track 77 protruding from the walls of the housing. Also protruding from the walls of the housing is a cam surface 81, having a notch 83 at the upper end thereof. Thus, when a toy vehicle 13 strikes the trigger portion 89 of the latch assembly 71, the latch pin 85 leaves the notch 83 and the assembly 71 then travels forward, propelled by the resilient member 95 in the direction defined by the cam track 77 and the surface 81. The tension in the resilient member is adjustable with knob 53. At the end of its travel, assembly 71 is stopped by cushion portion 91 meeting the member 101, which may have a roughened surface 103 to prevent rotation of latch assembly 71. Figure 1 (not shown) illustrates two accelerators used on parallel roadways and a catapult device for providing toy vehicles with an initial velocity sufficient to actuate the accelerator.
