Abstract

[Also in Division F1] In an hydraulic accumulator having a gasfilled bladder 2 provided with a valve member 8 which, when the accumulator is discharged, cooperates with a valve seat 6, the movement of the valve member 8 is damped by a dashpot 9, 10. The dashpot 9, 10 cushions the impact between the valve member and its seat and also prevents liquid from being trapped in the accumulator by premature closure of the valve. In the embodiment shown the dashpot consists of a cylinder 9 fixed to the valve member 8 and a loose fitting piston 10 fixed by a rod 7 to the accumulator container. To increase the damping just before the valve closes, the rod 7 may be provided with a large diameter and arranged to enter a bore 12 in the valve 8. The piston may be carried by the valve 8 and be movable within a fixed cylinder, Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown).
