Abstract

1,264,017. Gas burners. TRANE CO. 14 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 50417/69. Heading F4T. A gas burner 17 comprises an elongate tubular body with an outlet port adjacent'the front end of the body which outlet port comprises an end discharge port 31 and an elongated upper discharge port 32 extending along a portion of the body and being directed upwardly to produce an upwardly directed generally rectangular flame. The body is formed from two symmetrical sheet-metal plates 23, 24 disposed in face-to-face relationship each of which plates 23, 24 is formed with a first elongated lateral bulge 29, formed with an extension 37 which bulges 29 form in assembly of plates 23, 24 a distribution chamber 30. The plates 23, 24 also comprise a respective second bulge 39 which define a mixing chamber 38 which narrows to a point 40 coextensive with bulge 28 and forward of the rearmost point of the upper discharge port 32. A third bulge 33 in each plate 23, 24 is provided below the discharge port 32 to prevent warping of the plates 23, 24; flares 34 and planar areas 35 are also provided to stabilize the flames issuing from the port 32 and an inwardly extending dimple 41 on each plate 23, 24 at the rear end of the distribution chamber 30 prevents flashback. Gas is fed to the burner 17, which, as seen in Fig. 2, is one of several for a furnace 10, from manifold 20 with nozzles 22 and air is entrained into the mixing chamber 38 by the gas flow. Each burner has a notch 26 into which fits an ignition cross-over tube 27 which ignites the airgas mixture as its flows out of the burner 17.
