Abstract
1,263,925. Infiltrated sintered ferrous bodies. BRICO ENG. Ltd. May 14, 1969 [May 17, 1968], No. 23697/68. Headings C7A and C7D. A sintered ferrous base alloy is infiltrated with an alloy harder than the ferrous base. Infiltration may be effected at 1000-1250‹ C. in H 2 or an endothermic gas made from propane to produce a maximum infiltrant content of 25%. The infiltrant may be a Co base alloy containing 42-66%Co, 16-33%Cr, 5-19%W and/or Mo, 0-15%Ni, 0-3%Si and 0-2%C; a Ni base alloy containing 70-85%Ni, 7À5-15%Cr, 0-5%Fe, 0-5%B, 0-5%Si; or Fe base alloy containing 50-96%Fe, 2-4%C, 0-30%Cr, 0-10%P, 0-10%Mn. The infiltrant may be mixed with a metallic binder such as Cu, brass bronze, Cu-8%P, Cu-5%Fe-5%Mn or Fe powder or a non metallic binder such as stearates, camphor, resins and boric acid. The ferrous base alloy may be ferritic, perlitic, martensitic or austenitic.
