Abstract

1,262,643. Slip coupling. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 8 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 22371/68. Heading F2C. A slip coupling between a driving shaft 1 and a driven gear-wheel 2 comprises a friction plate 3 fast with the wheel 2 and gripped between two plates 5, 6 urged together by a diaphragm spring 10 and driven from a plate 12 fast with shaft 1, by levers 14 riveted at 15 to the plate 12 and having bent ends 16 extending through clearance holes 17 in the plate 5 so that with increasing torque transmission the levers 14 urged the plates 5, 6 apart against spring 10 to allow the coupling to slip. The spring 10 reacts against a plate 9 adjustably connected by nut-and-bolt connections 7, 11 to allow variation of the torque at which the coupling slips. Again, Fig. 2 (not shown), the plates 5, 9 are non-adjustably connected. The plate 3 is of sintered bronze, and the plates 5 and 6, and levers 14, are chrome or nickel plated.
