Abstract

1,261,210. Gear shift mechanism for cycles. RALEIGH INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 April, 1969 [8 June, 1968], No. 27344/68. Heading B7E. A cycle gear-shift mechanism comprises a pair of levers 10, 11, pivotally mounted on a frame member 13 about a common pin 12, the member 13 having two parallel longitudinal guideways 14, 15 therein containing nylon plungers 16, 17 respectively, each plunger being connected to a respective lever by means of an associated transverse pin 18 which passes through a slot in that lever, and wherein each plunger is connected at its end remote from the lever to a gear-control cable such that on pivoting of a lever the respective plunger moves in its guideway and may be releasably retained in any predetermined position when balls 22 loaded by spring 23 within the plunger engage a bore 20a in the side walls of the guideway. An indicator plate 26 with two columns of numbers thereon is mounted on frame 13 for movement with plunger 16. A pivoted masking plate 27 which moves in response to plunger 17 obscures one of a transverse pair of the numbers visible through a window 30 in a casing 31 to indicate the selected gear.
