Abstract
1,058,398. Calipers. G. G. MANGANO. May 28, 1964 [July 19, 1963], No. 22067/64. Heading G1M. A caliper gauge for checking measurements of articles comprises a graduated rod or bar 1 on which a slidable shank 3 is arranged, and a dial gauge 5 so mounted on an extension 4 of the rod or bar that its plunger 6 engages a pivoted lever 10, the arrangement being such that the deviation of size of an article from standard is indicated on the dial gauge 5 due to the pivotal positioning of the pivoted lever 10 necessary to ensure that the article when abutting the shank 3 is engaged by the adjacent ends of the shank 3 and the lever 10. The pivoted lever 10 is suitably held in engagement with the plunger 6 of the dial gauge by a spring 12 and piston 13 arrangement. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 the shank 3 and lever 10 are shaped to facilitate the external measurements of articles, whereas in an alternative embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the shank (3) and lever (10) are shaped and provided with adjustable stops (16) to facilitate the measurement of cavities within articles.
