Abstract
1,258,612. End-face seals. GOETZEWERKE FRIEDRICH GOETZE A.G. 25 Feb., 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 10090/69. Heading F2B. A sliding ring seal for a track-laying vehicle comprises an elastically-mounted eliding ring 1, Fig. 1, having at one axial end a sliding bridgepiece 11 presenting an end face of wear-resistant material, and a sealing bridge-piece 12 which co-operates with the sliding ring to bound an annular groove 13 for lubricant and which is displaceable or deformable relative to the ring so that sealing pressure can be maintained on the end face. As shown, a pair of relativelyrotatable rings 1, 2 are mounted for mutual engagement by means of 0-rings 3, 4. The wear-resistant material may be cast iron and the sliding face of the bridge-pieces 11 may be coated with molybdenum. The sealing bridgepieces 12 may be formed by elastomeric rings of rectangular, circular, or triangular section; alternatively, the sealing bridge-pieces may be formed by a rubber-mounted piston split-ring (12), Fig. 2 (not shown), a sealing lip (15), Fig. 6 (not shown), or a self-springing sheet metal strip 16, Fig. 7.
