Abstract

1,255,911. Friction clutches. DR. HERMANN E. MULLER. 6 Jan., 1970 [9 Aug., 1969], No. 696/70. Heading F2C. In a friction clutch wherein a diaphragm spring 3 is fulcrumed between rings 6, 7 carried by studs 5 riveted to a clutch cover 8, at least one of the rings 6, 7 is resilient and initially compressed to prevent play and thus wear between the diaphragm spring and rings. The portions 61, 71 of the rings which contact the diaphragm spring are preferably formed as knife edges. The axial resilience of the rings is facilitated by providing a space 83 between the ring and the cover 8. As shown the part of the ring adjacent the cover is slightly conical to provide the space 83. In Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) the part of the ring adjacent the coyer is stepped to provide the space 83. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the ring bears on a projection (81) of the cover to increase the space 83.
