Abstract

1,253,202. Motor vehicle chassis; vehicle bodies. ROOTES MOTORS Ltd. 2 Jan., 1969 [2 Oct., 1967], No. 44744/67. Headings B7B and B7D. A thermosetting plastics material, either with or without reinforcement, is moulded between matched dies to form a motor vehicle chassis having a generally rectangular frame 200 moulded integrally with a floor 205, the frame 200 comprising channel or top-hat section members, and the chassis having mounting points 214-216, 218 for front and rear suspensions and for an engine. The frame members diverge outwardly to the mouth of the channel or tophat section to facilitate removal from the dies, and may be closed at selected positions by separate cover strips (not shown). The floor 205 has strengthening ribs 201-203 and may extend outwardly of the frame 200 as at 206, 207 and be upturned at 209, 300 to form wheel arches 212, 213, and an upper edge 300 to which a vehicle body, also moulded from thermosetting plastics material is attached by adhesive or by bolts. A moulded scuttle unit (Figs. 20-27, not shown) forms a mounting for the vehicle controls and is attached to the chassis. Alternatively, the chassis and scuttle unit are integrally moulded, or the chassis and the body co-operate to form a scuttle.
