Abstract

124,984. Butterfield, J. B. July 5, 1918. Plug cocks.-In a plug cock having a hollow tapering split plug. the plug i is inverted and, in one form, is provided with a detached stem i<1>. Fig. 1, having side projections engaging in recesses cut in the top of the plug. In a second form, the stem i<1>, Fig. 5, is integral with the plug but almost separated therefrom by a cross " sawgate " o. The plug is retained in its casing by a screw cap d which may flex a four-armed or plate spring enclosed in a recess formed in the lower end of the plug in order to press the plug in contact with its seating. The plug is intended to be ground into its seating after it is split so that in use the plug accommodates itself to any expansion or contraction that may take place.
