Abstract
1,249,496. Safety harnesses. G. Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. 9 Oct., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 53541/68. Heading A3V. A survival harness comprises a waist strap 14 and a pair of shoulder straps 12, 13 which, in use, pass across the shoulders of a wearer, and are joined to the waist strap 14 at both front and rear of the wearer by passing the waist strap 14 through slots in the straps 12, 13, the distance of the waist strap from the shoulders of the wearer being variable by selection of the slots used. Chest straps 15, 16 connect the shoulder straps and pass through slots in the waist strap 14 where they are held in position by stop wedges 29. The chest and waist straps are closed by suitable fasteners 17, 18 which are described in more detail with reference to Figures 9, 10 and 11, not shown. A triangular label patch 30 can be provided at the junction between straps 12, 13 and bands 20 on the waist strap 14 determine the position of straps 12 and 13. The chest straps 15, 16 may be provided with dinghy attachments 56, and the shoulder straps 12, 13 may be extended to form under thigh straps 59, Fig. 8. An inflatable stole, comprising a bladder with two lobes covered by a stole cover 31, can be attached to the harness by means of loops of webbing 32 which are located on the stole cover 31 towards the end of each lobe and which are stiffened by strips of material 33 such as plastics, e.g. polythene. Loops 32 are passed through the slots in straps 12 and 13 and are retained in position by a rod 34 that passes through the loops. The inflatable stole and its method of inflation are described with reference to Figs. 2, 5 and 5A, not shown.
