Abstract
1,249,354. Driving articulated vehicles. AGROSTROJ PROSTEJOV NARODNI PODNIK. 17 Dec., 1968, No. 59853/68. Heading B7H. In an articulated tractor 26 comprising a front or rear first part 24, equipped with a source of power and a driven axle and articularly connected to a second part 25 with a driven axle 44 and a p.t.o. shaft 45, power is transmitted to the second part through a pair of coaxial doubleuniversally-jointed shafts 33, 32. The inner shaft drives the p.t.o. shaft 45 at engine speed in the construction shown in Fig. 2, and the outer shaft 32 drives the rear axle 44, which has an extension 66 pivotally mounted within a longitudinal sleeve 65 secured to the yoke 22 by which the second part is pivotally connected to a yoke 18 of the first part. The front axle is driven through engine-driven change speed gears 1, 2, 3 and gears on a countershaft (not shown) driving gears 13, 14 directly or through a reversing gear. The rear axle is driven from the gears 13, 14 through the outer universal joint shaft and a gear 43. The p.t.o. shaft 45 is connectable by a sliding coupling 12 to the hub 6 of the gears 1, 2, 3 (Fig. 2) or to the right hand end of the shaft 41 (Fig. 3, not shown) to be driven in dependence on engine speed. In modifications (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) a double sided coupling is used enabling the p.t.o. shaft to be selectively driven in dependence on engine speed or travel speed of the vehicle.
