Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A cable 15 for mechanically remote-controlling a davit winch brake 7 is wound at one end on a drum 16 positioned in the davit suspension system, between a suspension block 9 thereof and the davit winch 4, 5, 104, the drum 16 being driven by one of the boat suspension cables 10 through guide pulleys 11, 12 such that the control cable 15 is paid out and wound in at the same speed as the boat is lowered or raised. The winch brake 7 which may be disengaged by direct manual lifting of a weighted lever 8, is remotely disengaged by the cable 15 passing over a free pulley 18 on a weighted lever 21 which upon manual pulling of the end 24 of cable 15 is caused to lift and a pin 26 thereon engages the lever 8 to lift it. The drum 16 is mounted on the axis of the guide pulleys 11 and 12 and is driven through an epicyclic gear immersed in an oil bath within the drum. The planet carrier 216 is formed integrally inside the drum and carries shafts 40 having planet gears 41, 42 at each end, the gears 41 meshing with a sun gear 35 driven by the guide pulley 11 and the gears 42 meshing with a ring gear 34 driven by the guide pulley 12. The gear ratios are such that the drum pays out cable 15 at a linear speed equal to that of the suspension block 9 supported by a twin line arrangement of the cable. A ratchet wheel 54 and associated adjustable spring-pressed ball pawls 56 facilitate disengagement of the drive between the pulley 11 and the sun gear 35. Spring-biased rollers 44 and 49, 50 keep the cables 10 and 15 in grooves of the pulleys 11, 12 and drum 16 respectively.
