Abstract

1,245,984. Friction clutches; diaphragm springs. G.K.N. BIRFIELD TRANSMISSIONS Ltd. 7 Nov., 1969 [14 Nov., 1968], No. 54097/68. Headings F2C and F2S. A motor vehicle clutch diaphragm spring carries wear resistant pads 25 at the inner end of each spring finger 22, the pads being formed by the hardened heads of screws, having cheesehead or mushroom shape for use with domed or planar faced throw-out collars respectively. The spring may be fulcrumed between two wire rings or, Fig. 1 (not shown), between a flange (11) riveted to the clutch cover (13) and a raised bead (16) on the cover. The spring acts on a pressure plate (17) to a lamp a friction disc (18) between the plate and a flywheel.
