Abstract

1,245,091. Gang mowers. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. 13 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42262/67. Heading A1F. A gang mower machine comprises a main frame 10 having ground wheels 11 and wing cutter units 12, 14, which are movable from the cutting position to a transport position, each cutting unit being connected to a lifting arm 13, 15, by means which allow rocking movement of the cutter unit about a fore and aft axis and permit castering movement for self-aligning in the direction of travel. Fig. 3 shows a cutter unit in a raised position. A lifting arm 13 is connected to a shaft 41 whilst a cutter unit having a main frame 20 is pivoted to a shaft 45 which is connected to a sleeve 44 which in turn is pivotally mounted on shaft 41. The mower has a centering mechanism comprising a pulley 50, guide blocks 55, 60 and a wire rope 61 which combine to centre the cutter unit in a horizontal position and perpendicular relative to the direction of travel of the machine when lifted clear of the ground. Cutting cylinders of each of the cutter units may be driven by hydraulic motors mounted on the chassis of the units as claimed in Specification 1,093,251.
