Abstract

742,595. Lawn-mowers. SHANKS & SON, Ltd., A., and FITZPATRICK, G. G. M. Jan. 19, 1954 [Jan. 28, 1953], No. 2445/53. Class 6 (2). In a lawn-mower comprising a plurality of helically extending blades 19 mounted on a common spindle 11, resilient pads 30 are disposed between the blades 19 and supports 28 fixed to the spindle 11. Each blade is connected to its supports by bolts 29 provided with distance pieces 31, each blade moving axially on the distance pieces 31 within limits determined by the resilience of the pads 30. As shown in Fig. 1, the cutters are carried on a frame 13 hinged to an arm 15 extending from a tube 50 pivotally mounted by means of a pin 51 on a draw-bar 16 attached to a tractor. The frame 13 is provided with a wheel 17 and is attached by a cable 18 to the tractor. The cutters are driven from a motor 35 and the drive may incorporate change speed gearing. For transport purposes the frame 13 may be swung rearwardly through 180 degrees. In a modification, the part of the bolt passing through the blade is formed as an eccentric to allow the blades to be adjusted radially.
