Foamed plastics webs of rectangular crosssection and having flat top surfaces are cast in a loosely lined channel 201 defined by side walls 202 and conveyer bottom 203, extra material 207 being fed to the side walls of the channel. The extra material may be fed before, during, or after the layer 205 is fed and serves to ensure that the foamed web has a flat top.
