Abstract

1,153,442. Cabinets; furniture joints. PEL Ltd. 21 Dec., 1966 [13 Dec., 1965; 15 Feb., 1966], Nos. 52782/65 and 6512/66. Headings A4B and A4H. A bookcase, table or seat comprises four tubular legs 12 carrying brackets 16 to which are releasably secured side parts 13-15 extending between the legs 12 and a top 11 overlying the legs 12 and side parts 13-15 in a manner to prevent accidental release of the side parts 13-15. Side flanges 18 of the brackets 16 have vertical keyhole slots 21 engaged by headed screws 22 carried by the side parts 13-15. The horizontal web 17 of the bracket 25 has cruciform slots 23 effectively defining four keyhole slots. Headed screws 24 carried on the underside of the top 11 are engaged in the slots 23 by moving the top 11 in a horizontal plane. A spring biased plunger (29, Fig. 4) carried in the underside of the top 11 is releasably engageable in a slot 23 to lock the top 11 against horizontal movement. As shown, a glass fronted bookcase has side parts formed by side walls 13, a rear wall 14, and a bar 15. Further brackets 25, similar to the brackets 16, support a floor 27 and a further bar 26. Alternatively in a table or chair construction the side parts all comprise bars 15.
