Abstract

1,243,283. Suction lifting devices. WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd. 8 Jan., 1970 [8 Jan., 1969], No. 1221/69. Heading B8H. A suction lifting device for picking up small jobects 16, Fig. 1, comprises a wire 2 which is pushed downwards by members 24, 14 to hold the object in a recess 18 until a suction tube 1, to which suction is continuously applied through a conduit 5, is lowered into contact with the object. Diaphragm springs 7, 9, 15 support the members 1, 2 and the chamber 4 is sealed by diaphragms 8, 10. The bottom of the tube 1 may be provided with jewelled insulating inserts of different sizes. Fig. 3 shows an embodiment in which the suction tube 2A is concentric with an outer tube 1A. In operation the tube 2A is raised by an electromagnet 24A and the whole suction head is lowered until the tube 1A contacts and locates the object. De-energization of the electromagnet 24A lowers the suction tube 2A into contact with the object which is lifted by raising the whole head.
