Abstract
1,216,752. Counting particles. MEDICOR MUVEK. Jan. 4, 1968 [Jan. 6, 1967], No. 596/68. Heading G1N. In apparatus for counting particles, e.g. blood corpuscles, in a liquid suspension by counting pulses due to the charge of resistance between electrodes 13, 14 as particles suspended in the liquid pass through an aperture 3, the liquid is sucked into or pushed out of the liquid volume measuring chamber 9 by altering the pressure of the air in chamber 10. Initially, the liquid might be at level 18, an incandescent filament 11 is connected to a source of electric current to increase the pressure in the chamber 10 thereby driving the liquid level below the lower end of electrode 7, the excess liquid leaving the apparatus through a non-return valve 16. The current is then switched off and as the pressure in chamber 10 drops, liquid is sucked from vessel 2 through the aperture 3. Counting is initiated when the liquid level reaches the lower end of electrode 7 and stopped when the liquid level reaches the end of electrode 8. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown), a plunger replaces the filament and photo-electric cells are used to initiate and stop counting. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a bellows (25) is used to alter the pressure in chamber 10 and counting is carried out when the liquid level is rising and again when the liquid is falling.
